Lactate is the clearest measure of how fit you are. The more exercise you can do before lactate builds in your body, the fitter you are. Today's wearables infer that from heart rate and heart rate variability. With continuous lactate monitoring, we can measure it directly.
Where the measurement comes from matters. Lactate in sweat is partly produced by the sweat glands themselves, so it doesn't reliably track the lactate in your blood. VitalTrace's sensor measures lactate in interstitial fluid just under the skin, the same approach continuous glucose monitors use, and it's factory-calibrated, so it's accurate out of the box.
Proven where it's hardest first. Our sensor was developed for the most demanding setting there is, active labor, and has been tested in adults across the full range of exercise intensity (0 to 15 mmol/L) in a graded exercise test. That's the clinical-grade starting point we will bring to consumers.
What's next? Following the development of further clinical applications of our continuous lactate platform, we'll partner with the wearables people already own, running our sensor alongside theirs to provide chemical new health insights to consumers.
